Music

Daft Punk is a revolutionary techno duo that has managed to stay relevant since the early 90's. Daft punk introduced an entirely new style of music that combined techno, house music, hip hop, funk and electronic music. They mastered the art of house music and truly understood what it meant to start the party. Their up-beat songs always make listeners want to get up and dance.  Daft Punk is a two-man duo that opened the door to the world of techno. The two released a few songs throughout the 90’s but really evolved the techno music world in the 2000’s. They received a Grammy award for their song” Harder, better, faster, stronger” in 2009. The use of technology is what transforms their music. The use of looping sounds and repeating the same beat create a unique type of sound. Technology allows them to overlay many different sounds and instruments at one time, which would normally need an entire band to create and play all at the same time. They also use auto-tu...

Performance Video

For this performance piece I chose to record myself doing my morning routine. Everyone has a routine of getting ready in the morning no matter how messy, rushed, or organized. I chose to use a main focus of brushing my teeth because I feel that is the most important part of every morning routine. By splitting the two minute video into subsections, I was able to add other small clips of other activities that I do before heading to class or work. By adding background music and short tones, I was able to add a bit of comedy to the performance piece. It made me realize how valuable the use of audio is. It can turn a seemingly boring video into a comical, serious, or intriguing piece just based on what type of sound you select.

Collage

Image
For this collage, I chose to create a tree of life, using human body parts. I felt that the repetition of the hands and fists especially were inspired by the Pop Art shown from Warhol.I used a scanner to get images of my hands, forearms, elbows, and fists. I used the scan of my elbows to act as branches which are layered under the hands, although not visible in the image. The hands are used as leaves and the forearms are used as a trunk. The fists are more of a decorative touch to hide the seems and pull it all together, but they do resemble coconuts.

Grid project

Image
For my grid project, I chose to recreate a picture of a palm tree at sunset. I used square pieces of paper and markers to recreate this image. Contrary to popular sunset images, this specific sunset showed a lot of dark tone colors like blue, dark purple, and black. I used markers that I had already had at home which is why some of the colors are not as exact as they should be. The original picture, once pixelated does not resemble a palm tree what so ever, which made it a bit challenging to recreate. Original Pixelated Recreation

Dido and Aeneas

In the sunken city of Carthage, Queen Dido mourned the loss of her husband until she was swept off of her feet by the Trojan hero Aeneas, whom had set sail from Troy.  Aeneas, his father, and his son were heading to Italy to start a new kingdom, as directed by Zeus. This tragic love story is notably England’s oldest opera.       First performed in 1689 at an all-girls school in London, Dido and Aeneas stood out from all of the other operas of this time period. What is truly inspiring about this opera is how far ahead of its time it is. The attention to detail, choice of wording, and the performance itself were like nothing ever seen before. The tone of the opera is rather dark considering the abundant use of dramatic music and dimmed lighting. What is most amazing about this opera is how impactful the music is. In modern day, a film is generally straight forward. Actors speak their lines and viewers rarely have moments of confusion or mi...
